- Sweden: contact your local municipality (kommun) — school is compulsory from age 6 (förskoleklass)
- Norway: contact your local kommune — compulsory from age 6 (1. trinn)
- Denmark: contact your local kommune — compulsory from age 6 (0. klasse)
- Finland: contact your local municipality — compulsory from age 7 (1. luokka)
- Bring: child's personnummer/CPR/henkilötunnus, passport, and proof of address
- International/English-speaking schools — apply separately, often have waiting lists
- Confirm school meals arrangements — most Nordic schools provide free lunch
- Check free school transport eligibility based on distance from school
