What's on the list
- Register at the National Registry (Folkeregisteret) within 8 days of arrival if staying more than 6 months
- Apply for personnummer at your local tax office (Skatteetaten)
- If not yet eligible for personnummer, apply for D-nummer — needed for banking and contracts
- Open a Norwegian bank account — BankID requires a Norwegian account first
- Set up BankID on your phone via your bank's app — required for almost all Norwegian digital services
- Register with NAV (Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration) if seeking work
- Register children at local school (grunnskole) — compulsory from age 6
